I read that one of the conditions to get a on the spot 30 tourist visa is if you have a ticket out of the country which departs within the 30 days.
I only have a single ticket to get there and plan on using the travel agents in Thailand to purchase a ticket on the fly to continue the trip.
Would immigration deny entry if I simply "promised" the official that I'll be continuing travelling?
yes, it is an 'official requirement'.
But why bother? make an option via the internet, print it on paper and put a fake electronic ticket number on it.

dominic is right, you will need to show your onward ticket out of thailand to the outbound carrier.
I always use a fake itinerary and e-ticket, it works perfect.
Thai immigration officials won't check, but you might not get that far, as your airline may deny you boarding.
The usual solutions are either a) get a Thai visa in advance, or b) buy a cheap one-way Air Asia ticket out of the country to eg. Phnom Penh.

THAI VISA AND ONWARD TICKET SUMMARYYeah, good advice above. Having said that, I did enter Thailand on a one-way in September and no-one asked for onward ticket at immigration or check-in. The best advice is above, make sure you have all your ducks in a row, you probably will have no problems, but it is best to cover yourself.
Immigration in Thailand or the airline you are using to fly into Thailand just want to make sure you are leaving the country. There are lots of people who leave the country overland to neighbouring countries. I think that's a good enough explanation for not having an onward air ticket out of Thailand. I once flew with United Airlines from Tokyo to Bangkok and I didn't have an onward air ticket. So the airline just made me sign some waiver form that they would charge me for a flight back to Tokyo should the Thai Immigration not let me in. I heard it also depends where you come from. The onward air ticket rule is not enforced from richer countries but if you were from Bangladesh, Cambodia etc. they might want to see an air ticket out of Thailand
You mentioned that you will buy an onward air ticket out of Thailand anyway. So why worry about the immigration rules? Just buy it before you arrive in Thailand. There are lots of good online travel agents in Thailand. Check Mox Travel for instance.

Right , but one thing worth mentioning is that when flying from Australia , USA , Europe the option of signing a waiver may not always be available , its at the check in staff"s discretion , but more often than not they would just prefer to bump you from the flight . Most of the accounts of people signing waivers here have also been from people flying from Asian capitals such as Macau , Taipeh etc .

So if the op has any problems getting on a plane, all he has to do is call you, and you will explain to the check in staff that he does not need an onward ticket?

sorry for the delay in response. I shoulda checked the FAQ and written where I was travelling from too.
I'll be travelling from UK to Thailand. My mate and I don't wanna buy an onward ticket before we arrive because we don't want to tie ourselves down to a date and region of the country. We've never been before and we might wanna stay longer in certain parts of the country.
I guess I should just plan ahead instead of play by ear.
I'm still open to suggestions though and thanks for the advice so far
