Hey Savy Travelers, I have 6 - 8 weeks to visit and re-vist SEA and Im being very resistent to making reservations for hotels and even airfare. Im landiing in Phuket Febuary13 with the intention of heading directly to Phi Phi. Should I book a mid lower place or just walk up? I want to fly back to Bangkok in about a week , stay a few days then fly off to Phenom Pen--so far without reservations.I was then continuing to Luang Prabang by air from Seam Reap-without reservations- then back to BKK to fly out to Myanmar. Im new at this jettsetter style backpacking so I have no idea how easy it is to get on these flights or the costs for just hopping on vs. booking. Ive almost never had a hotel reservation when traveling outside the U.S. Im a little leary of booking these cheaper places with out seeing them... ...Maybe Im already doomed. Whataya think? Thanks, A--- hey do real jettsetters even buy tickets?

For booking rooms... if it's not absolute peak time... you'll find rooms as you go. For cheaper rooms... no issue.. but for mid or upper range.. usually you get the best deals on line when you book beforehand.
Try asiarooms or hoteltravel
For airline tickets on low cost carriers... you get the cheapest tickets if you book well in advance. When the cheap seats are gone... they are gone... and you pay the next available price tier.... In low season this may still be the cheap seats... but not likely.

that next weekend (Feb. 18th) is Chinese New Year. There will probably be alot of people traveling. i would at least buy a ticket back to bangkok to be guarateed. It is not a hassle and requires no fee to the change the time of your ticket in Thailand if you do so at least 48hrs before. So, buy a ticket and change it if you want to extend your time.
