Hi all,
Boyf is fairly insistent he wants a first class sleeper train on this journey, and as we'll be travelling during peak holiday season, I figured it would be best to pre book. I'm always a bit wary of just throwing my credit card details in to the void, so has anyone used asia-discovery.com and can confirm they're legit? Or what about 12go.asia?

Thanks for your advice.

Definitely book in advance for first class sleeper during peak season. 12goAsia come well recommended on other forums. I think they were the company I used when I booked in advance from overseas.

The overnight train journey is great, I've done it about five times. I'd advise bringing your own food as the food in the restaurant car is awful. Also, if you fancy a beer then bring your own as they no longer sell alcohol on the train.

I have used asia- discovery.com twice .They speak good English and reply to you within 24hrs. If you don't have a hotel in Bangkok they will meet you at the station.

It is illegal to consume alcohol on the train

If it were me I would head up to Lop Buri during the day and spend the afternoon there looking at the monuments and monkeys, enjoy a nice meal and a beer in the night market (outside the station) and hop on the train there as it passes (you can leave your luggage at the station). Would not worry about bring you own food usually there will be people selling nice eats on the stations in the early morning stops or hawking their wears on board

I also used 12goasia who were excellent. The reason they don't sell beer on the train is that it is illegal. A couple of times on a recent trip tourists were hauled off, with beer, so i wouldn't bother.

That is what i was saying about the beer not only is it illegal to sell it but it is illegal to consume it

chances are if they got hauled off the train then that might have been followed by an unpleasant experience with the police

Thanks everyone. Shame about the beer, although I'm sure they have a very good reason for banning it. One of life's great pleasures was sitting on that train with a cold beer, watching the sun set.

It's a Thai-style reason
