It ain't sleazy by any stretch. I've seen many Farang couples having a great time chatting and joking with the bar girls there. But for those excessively prudish, I suppose they could find something they didn't like about Patong-- maybe the male touts for the "special shows," shoving photos in your face as you try to walk along Bangla...
Forget Patong unless you want to spend your honeymoon fending off aggressive suit salesmen and fighting your gag reflex everytime you see a sunloving, leathery retiree in skimpy swimwear (i.e. ALL THE TIME). In fact, forget Phuket & Phi Phi entirely! I can understand wanting to tick them off your list, but your honeymoon deserves better.
If you're looking for luxury there's plenty on Koh Samui (You've probably already been there by the sounds of it?). Even so, it's really got all the perks of Phuket, and far less of the ugliness and stress.
Another option would be going for a smaller destination - you won't find as much in the way of luxury resorts/bars/clubs, but it could well make for a more memorable/romantic time.
Whatever you do, make sure you tell your hotel/resort that it's your honeymoon - most will give you a free upgrade or at least a bottle of champagne! On Samui we were upgraded from a simple room to a stand-alone villa w/ own pool. Beautiful!
Hope you have a wonderful time,
Lee
'It ain't sleazy by any stretch', well not if you accustomed to it plusultra, which I'm guessing you are. #11 lee440 got it spot on 'your honeymoon deserves better' and it does. Head for a smaller destination. Smaller destinations mean less prostitutes, less sex tourists and more 'real Thai' experiences.
There are so many nice, relaxing, beautiful places to enjoy a holiday at in Thailand. It's a shame many tourists 'waste time' in tourist saturated, inflated priced, prostitute haven's!

Thanks for all the info!
I appreciate what everyone is saying... We have 16 usable days in Thailand (not including the travel days arriving and leaving)... So other than a day and a half in Bangkok when we arrive to see temples, and the same to do shopping on the way out, we plan on spending the better part of 2 weeks on the beaches/islands...
Personally I loved Ko Tao and have vowed to return this trip... We wanted to experience Phukett and Phi Phi on this trip if possible... Is the weather that bad in June? It sounds like everyone is bagging on it a bit... We're okay with it being a bit touristy since, well, we are tourists and not locals... My intuition tells me it is popular for a reason, no?
So if people could maybe clarify on why going to Phukett or Phi Phi is a bad idea we'd really appreciate it...
Thanks all!

June aint that bad...!!...There will be more sunny days than rainy ones....Been there done that...!!!...
As for Koh Phi Phi...Been there too but way too quiet for me....But beautiful just the same....!!...A daytrip is nice...!!
I personally do have a passion and a place in my heart for Phuket with all it's do's and dont's and to's and fro's....After all,People do keep going back there...!!??...
Tho' I am going to Khao Lak this July and I am sure it will be a totally different experience for me....
Mmm..!!??...Now Khao Lak and staying in a nice lake house in Khao Sok National Park would be great for honeymooners...!!!

Phuket is a huge island with many quiet places to stay, if that is what you are after. Patong is by far the most popular tourist destination on the island, because obviously, most tourists like the place. It's Party Town, and if the sight of bar hostesses frightens or disgusts you, then you should indeed look elsewhere. Most people become accustomed to them though, and enjoy their visit anyway.
