We have lurked around this board for the past 6 months and this is the one thing we have not been able to decide on. We are currently planning a two week honeymoon in June/July beginning in Bangkok, down to Koh Phangan, then up to Chiang Mai…4-5 days in each location. We’re both adventurous, though wouldn’t mind a little pampering at one or two of the locations.
In BKK - prefer an area of town close to shopping, markets, nightlife, all the “major” sights, not far from the river, walking distance to public transportation, not looking to be in the heart of KSR, breakfast included, pool would be a plus…hoping to pay less than or around $75/night. We have looked around Sukhumvit and Silom but can’t decide if one is better for our wants than the other or if there is another area we should consider.
In Koh Phangan - wouldn’t mind a day or two of relaxation followed by some “beachy” nightlife, snorkeling, kayaking, trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park, Bottle Beach. Have seriously considered Thong Nai Pan Noi/Yai area but don’t want to feel completely isolated. If we could get a beach bungalow with pool, breakfast included for less than or around $100/night, I would be happy.
In Chiang Mai - prefer to be able to walk to the night market and to an area with a good range of restaurants (range meaning price, food, ambiance), would also like to stay in a more guesthouse-type of accommodation, private bathroom, A/C, pool, breakfast included, good tour desk, quiet location for less than or around $50/night.
Any suggestions for a general area in each location or for a specific accommodation would be much appreciated – thank you!
