Hi There,

Looking for a west-coast beach & backpacker destination in begin / mid November.
Our wishes;

- Backpacker atmosphere
(beachhuts/guesthouses (not to resort-ish), budget restaurants, some activity at night (some other travelers / pool / boardgames / movie in restaurant).

- Beach
(off course palm trees, bright sand, clear water; will make a nice atmosphere / not too much rain).

- Some activities besides the beach;
(doesn't have to be huge highlights; a nice hike / go around by motorbike / waterfall / nice village)

- Possibilities to snorkel or even dive will be an extra.

- Preferable not to hard to reach.

Considering;
Ko Pha Yam (Ranang), Ko Jam (Krabi), Ko Kradan (Trang), Ko Ngai (Trang) or Khao Lak.
Already visit lots of other Thai Islans of which we liked most; Ko Samet, Ko Chang and Ko Muk / Mook (you might compare it when visit as well). But something new will be refreshing.

Your inside advises please!
Greetings, Sharon

Hi Sharon -

You should check out tezza's blogspot (another Thorntree guy) on Thailand's beaches etc - it's excellent. If that can't answer your question, I don't know what can!

Cheers

Khao Lak Is actually not an island. It is the main departure point for the Similan and Surin Islands, but Khao Means "mountain"

Hmmm - Koh Phayam fits all your requirements, but one: The water is quite murky - due to a special kind of sediment on the ground of the ocean, I'm told...
Apart from that, reading what you want, I think Koh Ngai is your best bet - really loved the place, for me, it had something of a Koh Muk'ish feel to it...
You might also consider Koh Bulon Leh and Koh Lipe - the last one being a bit far out at sea, which is why it takes a couple of hours longer to reach it, though...

Ah yes, Bulon Lae. Readers interested in this lovely island might want to read the fairly detailed information thread I did on it a short while back.
Just ignore the 50-post torrent of abuse, insults, fabrications and taunts directed towards me by this forum's gang of nasties.
