I'm getting a bit confused. My itinary will be as follows:

  • flying to Bangkok (Nov09)
  • staying in Thailand for about 3 weeks
  • crossing the border to Myanmar (Kentung) for 1 week
  • go back to Thailand and travel for another month
  • fly from BKK to Yangon (Myanmar) and stay there for a month
  • fly back to BKK and stay there some days
  • fly from BKK to Phnom Pen (Cambodia) and stay there for a month
  • fly back to BKK, stay there some days and fly back home

Summary: the length of my plane ticket will be 4 months, my length of stay in Thailand will be about 2 months

Which type of visa should I have?

extra info: I'm from Belgium, 32 years old, employed

+* flying to Bangkok (Nov09)+

If you had a flight out of Thailand, within 30 days, you would get a 30 day visa waiver stamp on entry.

+* staying in Thailand for about 3 weeks+
+* crossing the border to Myanmar (Kentung) for 1 week+
+* go back to Thailand and travel for another month+

This is your second problem..... you only get a 15 day visa exemption stamp when you cross into Thailand at a land-border.

+* fly from BKK to Yangon (Myanmar) and stay there for a month+
+* fly back to BKK and stay there some days+

At this point you would get, yet another, 30 day visa exemption stamp.

+* fly from BKK to Phnom Pen (Cambodia) and stay there for a month+
+* fly back to BKK, stay there some days and fly back home+

Yet another 30 day, visa exemption, stamp.

Your two problems are that you don't have a flight out of Thailand when you first go there.... your airline, in Europe, may not allow you boarding...
and .... second problem.. you will only get 15 days when you return from Kentung...

the rest sounds ok.

You really need 2 X 60 day tourist visas for what you want to do... but you would probably get away with just one... if you are clever.... and, if you are lucky, they may give you a free one at your local, friendly, Thai Embassy.

Hi,
if you have not yet booked all your flights, a bit of re-arranging would solve your problem to take advantage of the 30 visa ( or exemption or whatever it's called) if you arrive by air. For example, if you book your flight to Myanmar before going to Kengtung you solve two potential problems. Perhaps travel to Cambodia before the Kengtung visit as well, Anyway you should be easily able to work it out. Remember, arrive by air, 30 days; arrive overland, 15 days.
Have a great trip.

Get your free tourist visa from Thai Embassy in Belguim. This will get you on your flight to Thailand - without they may deny you boarding. Don't put visa number on Thai Entry form - you will then get free 30 days entry (hopefully). When you enter overland from Burma - use your visa. All the rest as above.

Multiple entry tourist visa - what's that?
do you mean a non immigrant "O" with multiple entry?

you can get a single entry, double entry (Does Vientian still give this?) and 1 place still gives a triple entry (last I heard) all tourist visas.

I believe you are referring to "stacked" tourist visas - not multiple entry - each one only has one entry and expires when you leave - no matter how long - or short - your stay

I have only used single and 2 entry tourist visas

both can be used up to 3 months after issue and when activated on entry give you 60 days.

so for the 2 entry if you want to maximise it's use then you

  1. arrive the day it's issued - recieve 60 days (first entry)
  2. extend at immigration in country - recieve another 30 days
  3. before the enter before date (3 months after visa issue) exit thailand and re-enter before the date - recieve another 60 days (second entry)
  4. extend at immigration in country - recieve another 30 days

You are able to get just shy of 6 months in thailand this way
