RE# 723,
quote - "So............ any recent experiences of arriving into Thailand, by flight, with UK passport on one way ticket.... I'm flying in from India...."
-------------------------
With respect , you don't have to ask for new information or experiences. If there is any significant change to the immigration status quo then there would be new posts flying thick and fast . Usually moderators put a special thread like this when there are changes , so its not necessary to ask if there have been changes. Captain Bob's link covers all these things anyway.
And the situation is the same as its always been , immigration doesn't have the recources or motivation to check onward tickets if you have clean passport , come from the normal list of countiries tourists tend to come from , haven't been banned from Thailand in the past etc etc.
Thai immigration leaves it to the check in staff of the depature country to enforce these rules .
------------

"I plan to fly in November so is it better to arrange visa in advance in India?

I really don't want to book my onward travel yet... "
-----------------------
Since you are flying from India the risk of check-in staff making an issue of you not having visa is slight , if you were flying from Europe , Australia it would be a problem , but from India its ok.
As Captain Bob pointed out , check in staff in regional countries don't bother too much about these rules , its when you are flying from outside Asia you get problems and not just with Quantas.

RE# 724.
-----------------
"it's not the thai immigration people, its the airlines. apparently they are just covering their backs, but seems weird when the thai's really don't give a toss... "
------------------------
Well actually it is the Thai immigration people , they created these rules , and airlines have to follow them . Airline staff outside the region take the rules at face value and are mostly not aware that on arrival the rules are mostly ignored.
Immigration does sometimes apply these rules if a suspected undesirable arrives , someone with criminal record , or someone who might be illegal worker etc. So they keep this rule up their sleeve so if someone they don't like arrives they can make it conditional on having ticket out .
Another way they may use the onward ticket rule is to shake things up when they think things are getting too relaxed . Some years ago they thought visa runs were getting to brazen on the Cambodian border so for a little while border staff were told to ask for onward tickets , altho they did it half hearted piecemeal way and eventually gave up on it.
So its not airlines fault , its Thai immigration's fault for keeping these rules .

I am planning to do some travelling in January. I have bought round the world ticket and one of the stops is in Bangkok and that will be the last stop before I head home to UK.

I was wondering how does it work if I land in Bangkok and do a bit of overland for number of days, then go out to neighbour countries and returns such as Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, etc via boarder crossing, ferry and some flights? From what I've heard is that visa is renewed each time as you return (flying in 30 days and crossing the boarder is 15days, is that right? Is there a limit of return? As my flight will be leaving from Bangkok to UK. Do i need to apply any before like we have to for vietnam? Or just turn up and pay for it.....at airport/boarder crossing?

There is no limit to number of times returning . When you fly back to UK you just have to pay airport tax.

I got my visa today from thai consulate in istanbul. it is valid for 6 months & "good for 3 journeys" (not sure what this means)

my plan was to stay for 2 months in thailand, extend it for another month at immigration, than get another visa from embassy at cambodia & return back to thailand.

but the guy at the consulate said this is not possible. he said that this visa is valid for 6 months, so I have to wait till end of this time to get another visa. I find this hard to believe, can someone please tell if this is true or not? thanks
