you are eligible for a Tourist Visa bit not sure if you can get a double-entry in China.

Come into Thailand first time and get a 30 day stamp. Some airlines request you show proof on onward travel if you have no visa but I do not know if this will affect you coming from China (maybe someone else will know). If you do then either get a tourist visa in China before you leave or purchase a cheap air asia flight to Cambodia to show as proof of onward travel.

When in Cambodia or Vietnam go to Thai Consul and get a Tourist Visa ( it is valid for entry for 6 months) and you will get a 60 day stamp when you re-enter by land.

That's a great idea!

Because I looked on the Thai consul webpage and they said the double entry visa would cost me £58!!!!!

If I got a VOA (which is free) I could then leave via cambodia and get a single entry visa for the entry up north from either cambodia or vietnam. Even if they would only give 30 days that would be fine. Would that all work?

Chames, fly in from Kunming, get the standard 30-day visa exemption, then when you're in Laos hit the Thai consulate in Vientiane to get a proper tourist visa. Apply 830 am pick up next day between 1 and 3pm, M-F excluding holidays. Free of charge for now (until at least March 2011). You'll then get a 60-day Thai entry when you come back in. You could also get it in Phnom Penh, same drill.

Had been looking all over the place and do not find the answer so there goes the question.

What kind of visa a colombian national needs to visit Thailand?

Any help will be very much apreciated

A Colombian citizen would need to obtain a Thai tourist visa in advance at a Thai embassy/consulate.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Brazil has jurisdiction over Brazil and Colombia so that's the place to get it.
See http://thaiembassybrazil.com or send an email to info@thaiembassybrazil.com for more information.

Also note, coming from a Yellow Fever Infected Area they will also need an International Health Certificate proving that they have received a Yellow Fever vaccination. See http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2494

It is for a long time ago that when crossing the Thai border via overland that the given stay permition was 30 days the now given stay permission when arive in Thailand overland without visa wil not exceed more than 15 days, unles you have obtain a tourist visa at a Thai ambassy you will been stamped for 60 days at the border. This rule has been introduced to made it more unatractive for long stayers how are just crossing the border for visa extensions. The 30 day permit whitouth a tourist visa from any Thai ambassy wil only been given when arriving by plane at one of the international airports in Thailand . There are more intresting links to find here worthwhile to been check out for more info about visa,s.
