What do you think are the numbers, location and occupations of the main groups of illegal workers are here in Thailand??..

I think you really need to find out where the concentrations of foriegners are and the relevant numbers - I think you will also find that many of the limited number is your personal "straw poll" aren't actually doing what you think - they may well be getting tourist visas or not working illegally at all....

I'm sorry to note that on an issue you don't know much about you stick to your opinion, even though other people who have much more experience with this say something that is different from your opinion:

"I think you will also find that many of the limited number is your personal "straw poll" aren't actually doing what you think - they may well be getting tourist visas or not working illegally at all..."

So you know better than I do that my personal 'straw poll' is limited, and that I don't know whether they are staying here in the general area with tourist visas or are working illegally yes or no.

Sorry, but there really is no point in a discussion with somebody who knows me and my social area better than I do, without even knowing me.

  • where has the idea that visa's are going to be issued free come from?

#247. roger, There is a proposal going thru the motions (by those involved in the governmental side of the tourist industry) to enact a series of measures to boost the Thai tourist industry - of which a "free tourist visa" is one.

These measures were mentioned and listed on Thaivisa yesterday but the link placed on this Board appears to have been removed.

Nothing is as yet detailed or finalised.

It has been reported by both English language newspapers in Thailand. It is part of a general bill to help increase tourism that will be presented on the 20th of January.

*249 - any idea how it would work? Would we be given 60 days visa's upon air arrival? or would we have to apply to an embassy for a free visa? ( as a UK citizen)

I would guess you'd have to go through all the usual channels - otherwise it wouldn't be a visa.....

It's just occurred to me..............how will they be able to accept bribes if there is no money changing hands???

  • don't understand your point. - if they decide to issue visa on arrival to UK citizens why wouldn't this be a visa

Interesting point - I don't think UK citizens can get a" visa on arrival"?

Normally, the stamp you get for 30 days is in essence an exemption as UK citizens don't need a visa for a 30 day visit.

so if you want a 60 day tourist you have to get it before you arrive - whether it's free or not would be my guess - they are just planning to waive the fees not the visa.
