Just did a quick search , but there seems to be no other sources of info about this other than the Sunday Times . At this point might be a bit early to assume this will be a reality.

#1035. Dave, This gives link a little more substance, although not an exact timescale/implementation date(s) :

have a couple of questions and was hoping someone could help me out... i arrived to thailand the 31st of may... i arrived on a double entry tourist visa,
here are my questions if anyone can help me out thanks a ton... basically i have a commitment to be in thailand through the end of august and i have a rented out a room for three months anyway so that works out... my current two months expires the 29th of july and i plan on extending the tourist visa for an additional month and that would take me through the 28th of august more or less ... so if i get the extension i would have to leave after the 28th of agust... however, i have a flight the 4th of september that is already paid for... i would like to use the flight if possible... is it at all possible to have them extend the month a couple more days?
my guess is no... if it is not... can i leae the country around the 25 or so of august and via cambodia (i think it is 3 hours or so from bangkok from what i have heard) and then reenter but not use my second tourist visa... i would like to use it at some point but plan on taking the flight so i would only be in the city another 10 days or so... does anyone know if either or these are possible... thanks in advance
AFAIK you can leave and reenter in a day - tell them you don't want to use the second entry.
CAUTION - your visa (the piece of paper) is valid for 90 days from the 'date of issue' - so you must use your second entry within 90 days of the 'date of issue'. Check these dates.

Yes, by the time you reach the end of your 60-day entry plus the 30-day extension you'll probably be near (or past) it's validity period. Check the "Enter Before" date on your visa.

thanks for the response paul
my visa is acutally valid for six months :p ... until november 22nd, 2012...
so if they wont extend my visa till the 4th of september (it actually expires the 29th of july and with the extension that would take it to around the 29th of august) i will just cross and come back and not use the second entry...
do you know if it is possible to get the extension until the 4th of september if i bring my flight itinerary and everything down (this would take it to like 95 days until the 90 days with the extension)... i figure it is worth a shot but i wont hold my breath

another question... where do you apply for the visa extension (in bangkok) and how soon before the visa expires can you apply? thanks...

Immigration at Chaeng Wattana Rd, Laksi Apply in the last 2 or 3 days, but BEFORE expiry - once expired cannot be extended. Need 1 p/p photo, completed form (on counter) plus Baht 1,900.

ok... hey thanks for the help... i thought that you had to apply close to the expiration date...
another question... i have a flight for september 4th for cambodia... i plan on getting the extension, my two month visa expires the 29th of july... if i go apply for the visa is it at all possible if i bring in my flight ticket and everything that they gave an extension until the 4th of september so i can take the flight (with the 30 days it will only take me to the 28th of august more or less)... have you ever heard of them doing this before... this would be ideal for me...
I have just got my extention today - 30 days - that is what you get. You can bring all the documents you want but you will only get 30 days extention. You should leave when your visa expires - there are many ways (eg go to another country) of handling this - up to you.
I cannot understand why people (otherwise enumerate) cannot count the days on a visa with reasonably stated rules. You have done the calculations now - you know you are too late already - why didn't you get a ticket out for 28 Nov? I don't know where you are from but I do not understand why you expect other countries to change their rule for you.
(OK - may be I am having a bad hair day - but your problems won't go away.)
