Hi everybody, can anybody tell me to which islands there are verhicle ferries in South East Thailand (I know already Ko Samhui, Ko Lanta (but also to the south island?) around Krabi.

We have 2 weeks in december there and have a car which we like to take with us on car ferries.

And is Ko samui like Phuket (we know Phuket) also nice to drive around??

Thanks a lot!!

Albert

Koh Samui can be reached by car from Don Sak, which is about an hours drive from Surat Thani.
From this location, you can also take a car ferry to Koh Phangan, although Samui and PHangan are connected by ferries, they are not connected by car ferries. Koh Tao can only be reached by car through Chumpon but I don't think that this is a regular car ferry, more like a night boat where your car will be stored in a corner.

For more info on Samui check out my Samui info and weather blog with lots of info on what to do and see on Samui, first link below. It's great fun to explore Samui by car, the ring road is about 60 km and has plenty of smaller raods going off the main raod that are worthwhile exploring.

Ko Samui is much smaller and more limited than Phuket--I've driven it and the complete circuit with a few stops tossed in, can be done in a long day. I didn't find it one of the more thrilling drives of South Thailand, and definitely not when compared with some areas of Phuket. But if you'll have the car with you anyway on this trip, it's worth taking it to have complete freedom and not be in thrall to the Samui local transport mafia.

Are you sure? I took a vehicle ferry from Phangan to Samui last year (Thong Sala to Nathon). You can def. bring a car from Don Sak to either Samui or Phangan. As for Ko Tao it would hardly be worth the hassle of bringing a car as there's not much driving to be done there.

There are some very interesting but steep roads on the interior of Samui. If you have a 4WD , these roads can be a lot of fun and they take you to some spectacular locations.

The ring road is predominately flat so you dont get the sweeping coastal views like you do in Phuket, apart from a short section between Chaweng Noi and Lamai, but you will have to park the car to really see much as the best locations are taken up by restaraunts and resorts.

Was it Sea Tran

Yes, pretty sure it was. Thanks for clarifying. Ah so now you really have to choose from Don Sak which island you want eh?
