I've seen a few nice places in Isaan that meet that criteria , and also down on a few Islands , and even up as far as Chiang Mai ..
There are still loads of nice places that have not been over run by package tourists ,

titima claims he loves Thailand, but clearly hasn't comprehended what the Thais feel for Ayuthaya. It was a serious loss to Thai nationalism and given the chance,nearly every one of them will go to their temple at some point in their lives, to mourn it.

a westerner can't go to the Ayuthaya temple at home. But a Thai can, and for a Thai it's a nationalist and also even a religous duty.

Ayutthaya is important because it is ancient. It is Bang Luang, the home of king's, not a religious place of pilgrimage.

titima may be annoying (and so am I) but he doesn't tell people about the best of Thailand for the same reason that I do try to tell people. I wouldn't worry about it tit - no one listens anyway and they will carry on asking the same questions about FMP and how to get to Koh Tao!!
