I was travelling through Ayutthaya recently and stumbled on what I thought was a good little spot.

It ended up being a very unpleasant experiance and I will never go back.

I was setting myself down at the Street Lamp Bar on Soi 2 when I was meet with drunken abuse from

the staff and some of the local people seated in the bar.I tried to leave but was met with

threats and verbal abuse when I mentioned the Lonely Planet.

Please avoid this place as I would hate for someone else to go through what I went through.

Maybe a bad experience prompted the OP to sign up and pass the word.

How do you think the name Thorntree came about?

Getting verbal abuse from drunks can happen at any bar, anywhere in the world. It was an unfortunate experience for you. However, had you been there one day earlier you may have had a rollicking good time.

One point to remember: never mention the Lonely Planet to drunks.

Hope the rest of your trip is better.

Were you carrying your own drink with you into the bar (or a can of beef perchance?)
They don't take kindly to BYO ;-)

Definitely, mention Frommers. The drunk man's LP.

I get drunken abuse from locals everywhere I go, in fact if I didn't get it, a night out just wouldn't be the same.

^^ Interesting comments Anachack ... My next motorbike journey is being planned now. I gave the place a miss last time and opted for Korat. This time, I will head to Ayutthaya, Singburi, Lopburi, and Saraburi. I will be sure to create a trip report.
