Everyone: Don't confuse the current lowest value coin with 1 satang: The smallest coin is 25 satang, a.k.a. "1 salueng"

I have never see 1 satang coins in general use.

I agree with #10

A couple of days ago a supermarket in Nathon (Samui) refused to accept 2 50 satang coins for 1 baht.
They said: Go to 7/11 with them 55555

Whatever the value ( I also thought they were 1 and 2 satang coins ), I usually get some in change when I shop at Foodlands. I give them to the beggars.

The 2 baht coins are a pain in the ass since they are almost indistinguishable from the 1 baht coins. The 25 and 50 satang coins are ridiculous since they are so small that they aren't even worth dealing with. Be careful not to treat these coins disrespectfully, though (like tossing them away with disdain). That goes for all Thai money.

No, #10, no confusion. They really are 1 satang coins.
Look at the Thai treasury webpage if you are still confused - it is slow but it has pictures of all coinage currently in circulation.

I just got back from three weeks in the LOS and did not see the new 2-baht coins. In fact, I asked my sister-in-law and her friend if Thailand ever had 2 baht coins, as I seem to recall seeing large 2-baht coins, about the size of an old English penny, when I first went to Thailand 20 years ago. My question engendered some debate between my sister-in-law and her friend the result of which I cannot recall. They did not mention the new coin, which they apparently have not yet seen.

I have a 60 baht note from 1987, which was issued to commemorate the King's 60th birthday. It was mor or less square. I have not seen the new one, to commerate his ascension to the throne.
