about a year or so now.

there are also a lot of unusual thai bank notes and coins you can collect. eg. i've got a 2baht coin from 1995 that someone gave me and they printed some 60baht bank notes for the king's anniversary last year.

Yeah I came across a couple about half a year ago, but then never again since. :)

I think it's a bit silly as the size (and value) is so similar to a one baht coin.

Not at all silly, they have a particular value in arguments with Thais. Tossing a Bht2 coin in their general direction would at once demonstrate an understanding of Thai language while at the same time expressing a very succinct point.

Your understanding of Thai culture would best be demonstrated by the speed a which you then remove yourself from harm's way.

The scarcity of these coins can perhaps best be explained by people keeping them in their pockets lest the occasion for their use arises.

I've also some 1 satang coins and some variants of 50 thb notes issued in the 90s.
What use the satang are, I just don't know.

There are no 1 satang coins, they were cancelled decades ago.

25 satang (1 salueng) and 50 satang coins are still around.

They serve a decorative purpose.

Or get 4 1 salueng coins together to get one baht. :)

even the beggars turn their noses up at 25 satang coins these days.

#5, are you sure about the 1 satang coin being canceled?
If you check Wikipedia, it has them still being minted, although they could be wrong.

Yeah, I think that's also where I got mine. Not from a merchant, nor bank, and when I first got one I recall thinking "what the heck am I going to use this for?"
