Third Destination after Phuket & Bangkok... Koh Samui or Pattaya?

Hey All,

My friends & I are going to be in Thailand from the 24th September to 2nd October (8 nights)...... in Phuket from the 24th morning to the 27th/28th morning( either 3 or 4 nights).... I'm planning to visit Bangkok for at least 2 nights on the trip.... which leaves me with an additional two/ three nights.....I've shortlisted two destinations... Pattaya or Koh Samui/Koh Phangan ....need advise from travellers as to which one to go to... I'm thinking(from what I've seen on the web) that Koh Samui/Phangan's pretty much like Phuket(or is it?) ...but on the east coast?

It depends what you are after? If you are looking for beaches I would def go for Koh Samui i think it's much cleaner that Pattaya. Also the mountain jungle on the island is well worth checking out!!!

Some people think Samui is really cool and the same holds true for Pattaya. I've been all over Thailand on about 8 different trips and Samui is probably the only place I've been that I would never go to again. Pattaya is a pretty wild place with decent prices, lots of good restaurants and it's also very convenient and fast to get to from Bangkok. It's pretty far down on my list of places I'd go again but between the two, I'd take Pattaya, as long as you're not staying long. If you stayed more than a few days, I think you'd get sick of it.

I would definitely go to Koh Samui over Pattaya, its much cleaner and not crawling with near as many prostitute as Pattaya. It also has much nicer beaches. Koh Samui is more for relaxing yet also partying, while I would view Pattaya as a few day party vacation. Alot of people from Bangkok often do that.

I don't see the point of going to another beach-destination when you're already in Phuket. Actually by far the most spectacular beaches/islands are very near to Phuket, off the cost from Krabi and Trang. That's where I'd go.

Or, go somewhere different with some culture to it. There's a whole country out there.

Pattaya is a sleazier Patong at Phuket. For something different, go to Phangan. Samui is midway in character - nice island getting overdone.
