Thanks all for the suggestions. Leigh (#8), where on Phi Phi are the beach-side bungalows? Anything similar on Phuket?

The Holiday Inn Palm Beach has beachside bungalows. It's not cheap I know, but we have been many times and never tire of it. Here is a link to some photos

my gf told me about these on ko kood. koh kood

i once went to visit someone who was staying in a place on stilts on the beach in koh chang. it wasnt right in the water, but it was a stones throw away, i cant remember the name of the resort, but it will come to me.

there are some cheap type rooms over the water on ko samet. they look a bit rough though. i also thought i saw some near bang bao village on chang, but again they looked a bit rough.

Ban Boa on the very southern most end of Koh Chang, is indeed a village built over the water. There is accommodation a plenty to be had there, but like bangsue says, l do not recommend you try diving in right there, especially not at low tide !!! That is the only place on the sea l can think of. Apart form the houses on Khao Sok lake in the national park, there are also houseboats built right on the water in various parts of the upper river Kwai in Kanchanaburi.

Use to go to Koh Kood once, they have the bungalow right into the sea. But you need to check the tide as well. If it is the right time, you can jump in very easy.
