We have an overnight stopover in Bangkok on our way to Phnom Penh. We arrive in Bangkok at 6am and our flight out to Phnom Penh (with Air Asia) departs at 7am.
With such an early start in the morning we really want to stay somewhere right near the airport but it seems as though the only really close option is the Novotel Suvarnabhumi which is obviously really pricey. However, for the convenience of being so close to the airport it may be our best option.
I'm looking for some advice from anyone who may have stayed at that hotel, namely:
1. Is it worth staying there for the price/convenience trade-off?
2. Does a walkway actually exist yet between the hotel and the terminal or is it just shuttle buses running at the moment?
3. What is the best place online to get the best room rates?
If not the Novotel, are there any other hotel options very close to the airport which are maybe just an easy taxi ride and less expensive?
Chris

I stayed at the Suvarmabhumi Novotel at the end of October. The room, service, and convenience were outstanding, but I don't see any reason to spend that amount of money unless you're on an expense account, which I was. The walkway did not seem to exist then, but the shuttle was easy and convienient, although it took 10 min. driving in circles to reach the departure entrance.
There are lots of great options within a 20-25 min. taxi ride at 4:30 AM....which is about when you'll need to leave the hotel to check in for a 7:00 AM flight. My favorite online site is www.hoteltravel.com. I've used them many times, and have even done the difficult things, like making changes in reservations and getting refunds. Look under Bangkok hotels for the Ratchadaphisek area ones. They're between the airport and city center. I've used 4 in the area, but my personal preference is the Radisson. HotelTravel lists it for $65 twin (inclusive) and it's just off the expressway.

The Welcome Inn in King Kaeow Rd. is about the closest hotel to the new airport l can remember. lt is only about a 10 minute taxi ride from the trminal. King Kaeow Rd is the next main road to the left as you head into Bkk, and the Welome lnn is about a km down on the left hand sside. lt is a bout 3 - 4 stars, but is a typical Thai place, with an extensive karaoke section.
