any opinions on THE best place in B'kok for sushi? thanks

Oishii may not be the absolute best, but for value it's fantastic, pay one price and chow down for 3 hours? Perfect way to spend an afternoon before an all night train journey.

oishii is definitely a good deal. they have several branches in bangkok. except for the "special" one at siam discovery, the cost is from 400 to 500 baht depending on the time of the day you go. all-you-can-eat. includes not only sushi, but all the other stuff japanese. even includes some chinese food.
the "special" oishii is their newest branch. I think they charge you 650 baht there. again, all-you-can-eat. imagine eating a slab of salmon at one sitting.
one of my hawaii friends said he went to this one japanese buffet place in the emerald hotel that cost about 450 baht that was better than oishii. I haven't went there before. so, don't know if this is true. again, all-you-can-eat.
there used to be a place at the thaniya plaza near silom called kozo's which had an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for 220 baht. but it disapppeared. wonder where it went? anybody know?
food! the second most important thing in life. ahhhhh. oooohhhhh.
Oishii is the best value. Tsu Nami at the JW Marrriot is probably the best, but it will cost you. The Sheraton Grande buffet also has an excellent sushi selection.
i like fuji better than oishi... for japanese food in general there is hanako on suk soi 19

whever you go you will find very good japanese food in bangkok at a really reasonable price. one of the things i am looking for in my return to thailand in a mere three and a half weeks is the japanese food. if you like ramen there are a lot of nice ramen shops as well throughout time. oishi soo!!!

If you're looking for "Keiten Sushi - Sushi on COnveyer belt", there're two place I'd reckon.
One is a franchise from Japan, called Genki Sushi - 4 branches in BKK. CP Tower on Silom Rd - Basement floor, Ammarin Plaza close to the Central Word plaza. Both of these can be reached by BTS (Silom and Chidlom respectively).
Good quality - good price (20, 40, 60, 80 for sushi on the belt dep. on the plate's color). Also have other menu (not that good)
Another is Sushi Tei in MBK center, 3rd flr. better quality than Genki at higher price - by not that much.
The Oishi at Siam Discovery center is called "Oishi Grand". it'd cost you around 1000 THB a meal.
another spin-off in Oishi chain is called "Shabushi". here, you'd have a shabu pot for yourself and meat, veg will be coming on the belt.
This place also serve some basic sushi.
If you went to Oishi - better ask for how their serving works from the staff. it can get confusing sometime.
