Just wondering if anybody has ideas of great parties for New Years Eve in December in Thailand. Myself and two friends will flying into Bangkok on the 25th of December and would like to due somthing cool. Any big package deals or bars that do something special? Any towns that have parties?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

I've been sworn to secrecy so I can't say too much, but a traveller once told me that there's a New Years Eve party on a beach on one of the islands in the southern Gulf ... I really hope it doesn't get discovered by too many people and become too commercial.

It will be a nice semi-quiet night at the Hillary Bar at Nana for me,but I reckon for the young-uns Kao Sahn Rd would be a good night out

IF there are farang-then there will be a ''pahty'' laid up by the Thai. too much drink toomuth and too much noise. maybe some free fruit. No farang=no pahty.
Thai have their own Nw yr-maybe time to get adapted to the fact the west is not all-ruling anywhere
in tipical Thai fashion these things only get organised a day or 2 before-far too early now

get away from bankok and go to the beahces for new years eve , which ever beaches you go to there will be plenty of bars and a gorgous beach to nurse the hangover the next morning .

I spent 2007/2008 New Years Eve in the middle of Pattaya bay.
Thousands of people on the beach admiring the numerous fireworks from left to right, grandiose.
A unique experience.
Bars fully loaded and people on the streets.
A public party was ongoing at the pier, but I did not make it that far.

Thanks to almost everybody for their suggestions, dominic77 if you sworn to secrecy then why would you bring it up? So we will all be envious you've been somewhere cool? please. "bmta" I don't think its to much to ask to simply throw a party for the western new year and last I checked they also use the roman calender in Thailand. I'm American I celebrate new year and celebrate the Chinese New Year, I celebrate Mexican cinco de mayo, and the french Bastille day so I would cool it on the whole imperialist talk. Thanks.

Just looking for what "Thalenoi" said, a chill place that maybe has fireworks or something. A public party if there are enough Thais that care to celebrate the evening as well.

I was being sarcastic about the New Year's Eve Party on Ko Pha Ngan, which is anything BUT uncommercial.

Unless you live under a rock, you would have already heard about that party before you asked your question. So I can only suppose that you are wanting to know about other places to spend New Year's, away from Ko Pha Ngan.

There will be plenty of parties going on but one thing I notice is that you are arriving December 25th, unfortunately this is a bad time to be looking for accommodation.

Traditionally the tourists get to the beach areas before Christmas (another reason for a party) get a bungalow and settle in. If there is no 'trouble' in Thailand these beach areas will quite often be full to overflowing so finding a bungalow/room can be hard even in areas away from the parties.

Even in the KSan rd area it can be difficult to get the accommodation you prefer and you may have to take something more expensive or 'seedier' than you like.

If you are prepared for and accepting of this then you will have a fun time, if you spend too much time looking for that perfect accommodation you will miss all the fun ;)
But then luck can always be on your side and you may walk into the perfect place at the perfect time
Or there may be another airport blockade, riots in the streets or whatever and then there may be plenty of rooms to pick from, check back later.

Have a good, safe trip :)
