Hi all

As a seasoned well travelled individual it's easy get complacent so I'm asking for suggestions from you good people.

I am planning to travel to Thailand on December 8th and very fortunately I don't need to be back in the UK until January 2nd. So, with plenty of time and money to spend I though Thailand is perfect.

I have been to a few places but never to Koh Samui. I like to explore and see the sights, preferably by rented motorbike, so thought I'd start in Koh Samui and take it from there.

I'm wanting:
scenery
some beach time
swimming
a chance to relax but not get bored out of my head
visit other nearby islands.

The backpack is ready so please feel free to make any suggestions as to places, other islands, accommodation (I like budget but clean and safe).

I think I'll head back to Bangkok for New Years Eve.

Many thanks!

Dan

The Maenam or Bophud beaches at the Northern coast spring to mind on Samui or Bang Rak or Choengmon beach could be options as well. If you want the hustle and bustle, than Chaweng is yours for the taking and exploring and to a lesser degree Lamai.

Please have a look at my Samui info and weather blog it will cover all areas mentioned and plenty more.

Got a fair bit of info and pix on Samui HERE might help your planning.

With that lenght of visit you have plenty of time to jump across to neighbouring Ko Phangan and Ko Tao. Arguably they are even more attractive and diverse islands.

Ha ha! I was expecting more shameless self promoting on this from traders.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was thinking around a week on each island to relax but not get bored. Been a long year with work so it's a break I'm very much looking forward to.
