If its only a couple of months perhaps easier just to stay in a guesthouse . There are some pleasant and inexpensive guesthouses in Trat that would be okay for that length of time.

Like most small towns in Thailand this can be easily done. Most apartments require 2 mos. Advance payment but you should be sure you like the place because once you're in you are stuck. A guesthouse would offer more flexibility at a slightly higher cost. If there is no reason to be in Trat specifically then Chantburi is another choice which seemed a more interesting place when I visited.
