This is the latest guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Basically practice prudent hygiene, avoid consuming raw bird products and you should be fine.
I work with CDC and still plan to visit Thailand and Myanmar in the near future.

LOL, BeerLao, no more getting drunk and biting the head off a live chicken ;-)
Seriously though, this may mean avoiding eating raw eggs, such as in certain sauces
like Caesar dressing, Hollandaise and Béarnaise sauces.
Evil yet tasty sauces

I find all this hype reassuring, at least they're taking it seriously in case the virus mutates... Anyway there's nothing you can do about it, it's true for hypothetic pandemics, meteors, earthquakes and so on... we're lucky to be alive, let's enjoy it and not think of all the differents ways nature have thought of to end our luck.

Yes they love to dig out the spector of 1918 - if it mutates. if it can be passed between humans.
Then AGAIN, although SARS was more of a media hype there is always the problems of getting any real news, in LOS, say. In 2001/02 the neighbors daughter came down with hoof and mouth (which I thought humans could not catch) turns out there were over 20 cases in Chiang Mai Thailand. Thats what are doctir knew about, chances are many more. Any other country would call it an epidemic, but to say that might hurt the tourist industry so it was all swept under the table and not a word was heard.
Happy Travels

Apparently the SARS hype has left some people brainwashed.
E.g., when I entered a Hongkong subway last october, a lady stepped a few meters away and put a face mask on!
Whow, I really felt welcome :-(
(And decided to post pone my China travel plans for a while)

We have better drugs nowadays than we had in 1918 - even worst case scenario by WHO etc does not claim 50 million deaths.

I contacted the travellers health clinic in Edmonton and the nurse there informed me that the transition between birds and humans is not yet confirmed and to take precautionary measures (ie. make sure all poultry and eggs are well cooked, wash your hands frequently and before leaving ensure you have the flu shot). She said not to be too concerned, just to be careful what you eat, and when in markets try to avoid vendors that are surrounded by poultry.
Cheers!

I bthought it was stated by WHO etc that its not caught by eating fowl!!!
If you are worried at all get some Tamiflu by Roche - an antiviral and take withing 48 hours of any flu symptoms appearing - it works for regular flu as well

This is the UK Influenza Pandemic Plan for those worrying a bit
