what I do, is bargaining for half an hour to 50% off. Say 50 baht to 25 baht.
then give 50 baht baht and say: keep the change......
I just don't want be cheated :o)
but I am happy to let them make same money.
Shit, I paid 1000 baht yesterday to have cut down a sick palmtree.....

The best Bht pinching story I've heard in Thailand came from Khunjimbo, his tale of a back packer turning up at Khunjimbos place, ordering a bowl of hot water and then making soup out of KFC Ketchup + what ever sauces and spices were available at the table.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! Kind of brillinant... Another good thing to the frugal folks of the world could be the new big hypermarkets.. They always have free samples of stuff to taste. Walk around and you could probably get a fairly decent lunchtime fill.
And you can of course get a bag of one thing or another, grilled chicken or meat balls or something, eat it all while inside the store, then leave. Do it in the isles that aren't covered by the CCTV cams.

I have done that: Eat a bag of chips and drink a pint of milk, walking in the store and then put the empty bag and bottle at the cash point.
They charged me without even a blink.....

Pretty standard practice as a way of getting by during the American depression. Sympathetic waitresses would give guys a bowl of hot water and slip them some crackers.
(Common folklore, anyway.)
I know I have a reputation as a "cheap" traveler, but I've never done the stuff you guys do. I never try to beat down room or meal prices, pay for an aircon bus when traffic is crawling (or take the SkyTrain).
I suppose I'll have to loudly complain next time someone calls me cheap.

Oh I do that all the time. Yesterday even at Big C. But I was talking about NOT paying for it.. :)
> One time I got a 1500 baht massage when the 2000 baht masseuse was much more lovely.
More lovely, but more skilled as well? This is one arena where 'you get what you pay for' rarely applies.
Sideline girls are overrated.
Cheers,.
