Anbody know if you need to take the hotel's transfer in April or if this can be done independently?

Also anybody know anything about the small village behind the resort, restaurants, bars etc?

Thanks

Try here!
I live in Thailand - upcountry and always use them for my bookings except for LCCCs', which I book myself online.
Well I deal with them online also and have my ticket delivered.
I have been to their office only once for a last minute change, no problems whatsoever.

Of course you can do it yourself.
Take the ferry from Rassada Pier in Phuket and rent a longtail in Tonsai or let the hotel pick you up there!

GREAT hotel--getting kinda pricey these days though. While im sure you can get a private longtail there--i recommend using the hotels speed boat which meets all the ferries. Even on speedboat its a 30 minute ride or so if i remember correctly. Isnt the hotel's boat free for guests? Once at the hotel, you are pretty captive--as there is no where else to eat drink (we did not walk to the village you mention---but i doubt there is much for tourists there). The food is good and only slightly overpriced
