Outside of the tourist slums have been offered gifts many times from young children to the elderly. Never heard of any spiked drinks outside the tourist areas. If so very rare. Never had a problem . But than again the dodgy women have red flags written all over them and easy to read.

SarenAid I am pleased you only suffered a bruised ego from this scam. Many a handsome man has suffered worse both financially and physically. From you initial post on TT you said you were on a 3 week trip to Asia including Taipei, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. And "I will be meeting someone on the 3rd week". I am guessing you were meeting this lady on the 3rd week and that you had "met" her on the net and arranged to meet in Bangkok. I am rather sceptical about "generally we split the tab when a cost was involved" and that she visited you in Koh Samui at her expense. Anyway I am playing detective here and again guessing at the end of the trip she put it in you for reimbursement of her time and expenses. When you refused she called in her friends and when their persuasion failed she tried to rob you by spiking a drink.
You wouldnt be the first gullible male in Thailand to fall for this. Not so long ago I met an Aussie who had arranged to meet 5 ladies in Thailand and the Philipines who he had met on the net. That was the sole reason for his holiday. Anyway I later heard he had been bashed while with one of the ladies in Phuket. I think you are lucky and thanks for the alert. Cheers Napper

Napper, the person i was meeting was my brother who was flying in. I had no premeditated notion of meeting a lady in Thailand and have never hooked up with a local on my previous travels. She never asked for anything from me but i never gave her a good opportunity to do so since i left immediately after realizing what she was and what was about to occur.

I just wanted to put a notice out there for anyone who might catch themselves in a similar situation. Be very weary. I'm glad that i was cautious the whole time i was around her and even still, i got very lucky to get out unharmed physically and financially.

I'm also a bit spurious about OPs assertion that they "split the tab". Surely if you're on holidays in a much poorer country than your own, the least you'd offer is to pay for drinks, meals, etc, yourself.

And I'm kind of curious that she could afford to leave BKK or wherever at her own expense to follow you or join you in Koh Samui. I'm guesing that Napper is pretty well spot on.

Unfortunately, many Thai women - especially in tourist areas - see foreign men as "walking ATMs" and even milk some unfortunates for months after they go home.

I don't quite fully agree with thaibeachlovers re nothing being free in Thailand, but you generally find that paradise is not always so when you open your eyes to what's really going on.

I read it as Ko Samet (Although OP spelt it as Samut).

Only the sunsets, only the sunsets!

No doubt someone, somewhere will get something "free", but not usually from Thai women.
Even Thai men have to "buy" their wives. A good catch- hiso family, uni educated, good looking can cost a million baht in sin sod.

what a loser

It's easy to meet a normal woman in Thailand.
If you can speak 50 thai words and show an interest in a local woman not hard to meet someone who isn't remotely connected to the bargirl scene or scams.

Some of the tourists are socially retarded though and can't find a real woman.

Not everyone pays Sin Sot either. I know many who haven't. It wasn't because they couldn't afford it either.
