Hello,
I need some advise on travel to Siem Raep. We (2 persons) will be in Bangkok on 19-21/04. Then I plan to go to Siem Raep near Angkor Vat and then Krabi via Bangkok. We want to go one way by bus or train and then from Siem Raep by plane. My thinking is to take morning bus on 21/04, and I as hope to be in Siem Raep in the evening, then 22/04 sightseeing in Angkor and on 23/04 morning on early afternoon flight back to Bangkok to be able to catch flight to Krabi. As I need to book plane tickets right now I need advise on travel to Siem Raep - will I manage to get there by bus or train within 1 day (assuming start early in the morning) and will it be possible to book tickets (possibly with stay in hotel in Cambodia) in Khao San Road area within 1 day ? If this pland does not square I can extend stay in Cambodia for 1 day more. Thanks in advance for help :)

Oh i feel for you. It is possible to go by bus from Bangkok to Siam Reap but it is not a pleasant journey. The road is unmade from the border town to the city, a long trip over very bumpy road. The bus is usually packed and so some people are placed on small fold out chairs. They also drag the journey out as much as possible, we had a fake breakdown, endless stops to wash the vehicle (it had just poured down torrentially!) and and so on and so forth. Then they dropped us at a hotel around midnight and when we made it clear we would not eb staying there they made it as difficult as possible so we would not make it to another hotel. Horrid people.
but it is possible - it is just a long long journey.
If you want to read about my experience i have it on my blog. Re-reading it i seem tohave underplayed the ordeal. The page is here..
Good luck. The temples are fantastic and well worth it. Dont forget ot goto the landmine museum which is a very worthwhile cause.

Peace

I just came back last week. It's possible in a day. Leave from Morchit northern bus station as early as possible. Arrive in Aran 4- 4,5 hours later (207 Baht), get motorcycle or tuktuk to the border (60- 80 Baht, 6km), cross border, take taxi to Siem Reap. I paid 35US$ for the whole taxi last Saturday, it took 2,5 hours.
According to the schedule I got at the ticketing window at Morchit there's a bus at 03:30, 04:00, 04:30, 6:30, 07:00, 07:30,08:30 etc. until 17:30. There's this number printed on it, 02 512 37556. Don't know if anybody there speaks English.
You get a 30- day visa for Cambodia.
Don't know if you can book from Khao San Rd. I wouldn't, wait till you're here or ask on TT for recomendations.

Do not book any kind of transport to Cambodia on Khao San Road. Don't even TALK to an agent on Khao San Road about going to Cambodia.

Take the train or a govt bus to the border and then a private taxi to Siem Reap. You'll get there before sunset.
