So was thinking of heading down to Krabi area within the next two weeks but the weather forecast is for rain and thunder at least for the next week. My question is it worth going in weather like that? Currently in chang mai and have other options so in no rush
Maybe you should check a different weather channel.. A few showers never hurts, only cools it down

How many mms are they forecasting? Forecast of rain means nothing in the tropics without more information. Weather sites sometimes forecast "rain" everyday for weeks when the reality is dry 95% of the days.
Forecast next 4 days is good during the day but rain at night and they give est of mm.
(If you are going to look at weather sites you need to read the numbers and when it's likely to rain not just the brief description)
In the tropics it's normal for around 70% of the rain to fall between 6pm and 6am and 90% to fall between 3pm and 6am. That means afternoon and night storms.
The 6am to 3pm hours are usually the driest hours which is good for tourists as most tours operate in those hours.

Thanks this is useful. I have looked at these numbers for the dates we are thinking of going and you are right. There is probably one day that doesn't look good wether at all but hey im going for a chilled time and have found a nice place to stay so im sure ill make the most of it
Cheers!

You will be fine. Rain at night greens the surroundings and freshens the air. Thailand can be dusty when no rain for a while.

I was in Chiang Mai one January with a weather app giving me the same rainy forecast for Krabi, but went anyway (few options). And yes, I guess it did rain every day... for maybe 3-4 minutes? And it was cloudy for perhaps 20 minutes before then? It might have rained one evening too. In short, the forecast was close to meaningless. It was fabulous.

The forecast was correct then. It did actually rain. The problem lies with people not reading the forecasts in any detail. Short showers are very common in the tropics.
