Hello people. First post in this forum so "hi". I'm off to Thailand next year but I have a question regarding private rooms/villas that over look the beaches. I've looked online but can't find the exact answer. Well do I have to book these in advance or can I do this when I'm out there?

Depends where you want to go and when you want to go.

You don't have to book in advance , you are better off going there first and checking them out so you know what you are getting . Maybe Ko Samui might be an option. Note that Thailand's islands are mostly not set up with short term villa accommodation like Bali is . And some rental places operate on longer term rental basis . If you are only going for 5 weeks you may be better off with just regular pay by the night resort - hotel - chalet - bungalow accommodation.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it would be better actually seeing the places first but wasn't sure on the price. Didn't know if they bumped the price up or they gave you a decent price just to sell the room. Planning on staying in hostels but on the odd night I wanna experience something a bit better. Would I have to use apps out there or would locals point me in the right direction?

First thing is to decide which island . Bungalows rather than hostels are the main form of budget accommodation and often don't have any booking system or be on any apps. If you can borrow a guidebook it might give an idea about which island you want to go to.
