Good morning from Ireland,

My wife and I are heading to Myanmar in September (not an ideal time I know!) and we were hoping to relax at a beach for a few days at the end of the trip. By all accounts it seems like the beaches in Myanmar will be abandoned so we have found cheap flights to Phuket where we can get a flight back home.

We are looking for a nice resort recommendation for three nights - around €200 a night with breakfast would be nice. Although we do want a luxury resort with a nice view, nice pool and maybe a spa, we don't want to feel too isolated so somewhere within walking distance of a few shops and restaurants/bars would be lovely.

Many thanks

I happen to agree with Undetherhill on this one if for no other reason that most on this forum are spending no where near your budget and Phuket has plenty of hotels of the sort you are looking for. At that end of the market you are really looking for location. Me I would stay in Phuket town for the best of evening food and bars and head to the beach during the day but that may not be your idea of fun

What's the weather like in Phuket in September

Welcome to September the coldest, by Phuket standards, and the wettest month at the end of the monsoon. Even though this is the coldest month, it only makes it be a few degrees as the top temperature rarely goes above 30°C. This will not deter many tourists as it is still warmer than the European winter. The rain will fall on around 21 days this month with heavy downpours leading to sunny and humid days.

Rainfall

Average rainfall is 400mm that is more than 10 times you will see during each month of the dry season from December to February. Rainfall will start to ease towards the end of the month heading into October which will see about half the amount of rain.

As above there are so many luxury resorts on Phuket that you simply have to go with your gut feeling.

I stayed at the Royal Phuket Yacht Club which I can recommend (I believe it's called The Nai Harn now). I picked it because I wanted to get away from the turmoil of Patong and similar beaches and this location right in the south of the island appealed. With your budget you should be able to get one of the better rooms. Nice main beach with other coves and jungle walks nearby and enough choice of eateries and bars. Nearby is actually an anchorage point for passing yachts so high season sees lots of interesting conversations and stories of the high-seas.
Hotel was lovely for a few days, see reviews on booking.com for The Nai Harn to see if it suits your particular criteria.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

That's a fair budget. I live here on Phuket and work at a 5-star resort. It is the nature of the beast to be isolated a bit. Off the top of my head, you might look at The Hilton Arcadia for your requirements. Thinking a bit more, somewhere in Laguna would probably suit you. Banyan Tree, Outrigger, etc. would put you in a prime location to access Boat Lagoon or the bars of Bangtao.

What happened with your Aloha move Mr. B?

Take a look at Phuket Marriott Merlin Beach, you might like it. We preferred JW Marriott on the northern end, away from Patong crowds.

I like the hustle and bustle of Patong Beach. Holiday Inn Resort is at the end of the beach and quiet. It has 2 wings, and several excellent restaurants. Check out their website. There are other more expensive places, bu this is where we stayed, and would go back to.
