What ~4 star hotels are recommended in Phuket near Patong Beach - want nice rooms and a great pool with swim-up bar... Don't want a family-orientated hotel.

> Don't want a family-orientated hotel.
How would you like it oriented then?
(That's a serious question by the way. Honestly I wonder what you're looking for then, being in Patong and all.)

ie. looking for a hotel that has mainly adults staying at it.
Not one that is highly geared to suit families with kids clubs etc.
Ah ok. In Patong you get a mix in most tourist class hotels. Still, this being Thailand, kids are never a majority. When I stayed in Patong I stayed at Sea Sun Sand, which was very nice and not expensive. Around 1200 baht or so on the booking sites. (it looks nicer than on the pictures). No sea view, but that's not that common in Patong unless you don't mind paying 3000 baht or so.

Like Chancho says Patong is pretty much wall to wall with 3 & 4 star hotels/resorts and most of the clientile are middle aged europeans. The big question is location. Do you want to stay at the places on Thaveewong Rd? which runs along the beach and how close to the center of town do you want to stay?? Bang-La Rd is considered the center of town and is where all the nightclubs & girlie bars are.
The best thing to do is go to one of the hotel finder sites, check out a few properties that look good to you and come back and see if anyone here has an opinion on them.
For the record last year I stay at Tropicana Bungalows. they are on the beach road and close to the center of town and run about 2000 baht high season
