Hi Ya All,

First of all many thanks to those who have already given me some tips re my last log. I am planning a North and South trip to Thailand in Feb 08 and have an itinary for North but want to finalise the South. I have 14 days to visit:

1. Ko Phi Phi
2. Krabi - Railay (if worth going to as well as Phi Phi)
3. Kho Lak
4. Sumilian Islands - Snorkelling Tour with Poseidon (2 nights -3 days)
5. Ayuthaya

I would be grateful for tips re:

a) Best Travel Route to fit all this in to minimise on time spent travelling whilst also having fun at it
b) Suggested No of days in each location to use up my 14 days
c) Tips on Kayaking - Day and other tours
d) Good ideas for things to do or places not to miss in each place
e) Good recommendations re hotels places to stay and vegetarian restaurants in each location

Any help is much appreciated.

many thanks

Do a day trip to Aythaya after you have finished with the south, if you have time left over.

You are going to be a bit tight on your schedule.Maybe 2 or 3 days per place should be okay with in your time in Thailand, for the south destinations.

You may gain a bit of time if you fly south and fly back to Bangkok. There are no trains to the Andaman side so you bus it, which is a bit tirying or take a plane.

IMO:
Overnight government bus to Phuket.

Phuket, 1 day/ night

Similian's, absolutely fabulous.

Khao Lak, no personal experience. OTY

Phi Phi day trip only, or 1 night at most.

Railay is brilliant, balance of time.

Overnight government bus, Krabi to Bangkok.

Day trip to Ayuthaya.

Bus or fly into Krabi - ferry to PP.
Ferry PP to Railay (there is a direct one - drops off at Railay and goes on to Ao Nang)
Minibus direct from Krabi town to Poseidon - look around Lak for a day, boat trip 3 days.
Overnight bus or fly to Phuket - daytrip Ayuthaya.
That gives you roughly 4 days in PP and Railay, give or take adjustments for transport etc
I have a fair bit of info about all these places except Ayuthaya in the second link below. I reckon Railay might be the place to do your kayaking - paddle around to Phra Nang and Ton Sai - I have also seen plenty of kayakers around Ko Poda which is about 4 km out from the Railay coast. You can also organise commericially run Kayaking daytrips and overnighters around the fabulous karsts of Phang Nga Bay from Railay - you start paddling at or near Phang Nga, not Krabi!

# 4, why do you say a day is lost on the bus?
I always travel bus to Phuket, leave about 7pm, save a night's hotel bill, wake up in the morning as arriving, about 6 am. Go on to enjoy the day.
Not much missed, except a night out somewhere, and get to see the so interesting towns and countryside of Thailand.
Lots of money saved, compared to flying, and save the planet too!

Oh shucks, you young people just got no stamina these days. LOL.
I only get about 2 hours sleep on the bus ( if I'm lucky ), but manage to last till pumpkin time the day of arrival, and I reckon I'm way older than most travelling the tourist trail.
