Does anyone know of any other fun things to on New Years eve in Thailand besides the full moon party in ko pha-ngan? I am a 24 year old female and I will be travelling with a friend, we want to have fun and meet friendly people but ko pha-ngan seems a bit too full on and scary, does anyone know if there are any other alternatives for a more chilled out/original way to celebrate the new year?

I never made it to the full moon in Koh Pha Ngan nor never will make it. However if your interested in a good time for new year I believe there will be a good party on the beach in Phang Nga bay on Riley beach near Krabi. If in Bangkok I would try down by the river near Sampan Thaksin bridge where all the hotels will throw a huge firework show. Another place in Bangkok would be in front of Central World where there will thousands of Thais doing there thing. I would assume anywhere beside Koh Pha Ngan would be great. Probably some good parties going on remote beaches in Samui.

I reckon Thong Nai Pan on Phangan would be a good place to be for some party without being over the top.
Other places - White Sand Beach and Lonely Beach, big Ko Chang. First 3 beaches Ko Samet. Any of the popular beaches on Ko Lanta.
Got lots more info, pix etc on all these HERE

If I was on Phuket, I'd head for some intermediate beach like Kamala.
