I want to get a big bike and head to the hills on a 2-3 day (loop) tour from Chang Mai.
i previously rode from Chang mai to Pai and a bit further and the scenery was wonderful.
I'm thinking of doing the whole loop this time via Mae Hong Son and Mae Sariang?
Would this be the best route as for things to see and gorgeous mountain scenery or can anybody recommends a better route for this sort of time frame?
Many thanks

This is a favourite loop amongst riders up here, go to http://www.gt-rider.com/ you will find all the info on loops and day rides here

Did this loop 2 times by a 4wd car, not by bike. Great. The scenery around MHS, Soppong and Mae Sariang is even more wonderful than going the route from Pai to Chiang Mai. But do take care on the surface of the street, loose sand, steep ascents and sharp curves. The quality of this road is partly an adventure and much worse than the 'highway' Pai - Chiang Mai. And: it takes some time to do the trip.
Have fun!

If you're up for something "really" adventurous, rent a dirt bike (any of those 250cc enduros most bike rentals offer is good) and try the Chiang Mai - Samoeng - Wat Chan - Mae Hong Son "old elephant-trail" route. It will probably take you 1 day for CNX to Wat Chan, 1 day for Wat Chan to Mae Hong Son (the most demanding part) and another (long, but concrete road) day from Mae Hong Son back to CNX. Every bike shop worth its money has the "Mae Hong Son Loop" map for sale and this is what you need to find your way.
It's mostly bumpy dirt tracks and not for the faint of heart but a fantastic trip.

hello
