From past experince of a theft, police just file a report and send you on your way.

I have just re4ad the OP's explalnation and I'm now not in the least convinced it was stolen....far too many assumptions.
...such a minor item, hardly worth the effort of making these accusations either.

Some of these comments are the most ridiculous responses I have ever seen posted to a blog. You would think some of you are some how affiliated with the Mo Chit Bus Terminal Left Luggage. The assumption that anyone would come here simply to post something that is not true is rather ridiculous. To question someone and chastise them simply for trying to warn anyone is equally ridiculous. I had not idea that this site was this immature.

You are correct, but apparently some people here think that I posted this for advice. Maybe they can't read. Who knows.

I get a strong impression that this isn't so much a warning but a venting of anger or frustration.
I think the one thing that others can take away from this is to be careful/mindful when storing stuff.
make sure you have a system of packing whereby everything has its place.
check before you leave rooms or other places.
Don't make stuff easily accessible to inquiring hands
Don't leave stuff on the floor in restaurants etc - it's so easy to nick stuff down there.
Don't make yourself and your luggage look like a "shop window" - if you wave stuff around and pack in public or obviously, people will take note and then take advantage.

khunwilco, As I indicated, I don't need your advice or your psychological evaluation. Have wonderful day.

Correct, as is the QED. ;-)

Hi Ruth, I understand your frustration, but there are many posts on here from people who are certain that a particular place has somehow cheated them. Often these claims don't seem to hold water.
I asked for more details because it didn't seem logical that someone would rummage through your backpack and only steal one item. You clarified by saying that the powerbank was in a side pocket and so easily steal-able. As said above this is a lesson for packing, maybe not one you want or need, but possibly useful for others, so your post will prove useful for them.
Nonetheless, if the item was easily steal-able by the left luggage place then it could also have been lifted at any other time by a half competent pickpocket. Even a helpful taxi driver could have done it while putting your luggage in his boot (trunk).
I feel that if you went to the police, the first question they would ask is did you check the item was there immediately before depositing your pack in the left luggage and then again, immediately afterwards.
Enjoy Cambodia.
