Wow - this is insane. I have met people from ThailandFriends. Most of them are normal....some are a bit crazy. I have met people from other sites as well. I met my fiance on the internet (not TF, but elsewhere). We started as friends, but it has evolved. It is what it is. It is not much different than meeting someone from the internet in your own country. My girl is the same age as me. She doesnt work in a bar. She has never worked in a bar. She is not from Issan. She lives in BKK. It is up to you. These places are open to everyone, so you will find a general representation of the "internet literate" on them. Use your discretion and you will be fine. I happen to know a very happy couple that met on TF and have no problems. In fact, she has a great deal of money and is not interested in anything but him.

You mean younger than they are? Or just 'young' as per your definition, or? I know loads. And then myself of course.

Chan, I'm referring to guys young enough not to qualify as the "old fat ugly men" much beloved of posters to this branch ( now there's a generalisation for you ). It would seem to me that if it were common for the type of relationship I'm talking about ( not married, not living together, non monetary ) there'd be some couples of farang male and Thai female in MBK, on the skytrain, around the shopping malls, in the parks, on the streets or really just anywhere around Bangkok in public. While I have no reason to doubt what you are saying, I can only assume that such relationships are restricted to a taxi ride to a restaurant or night club etc. In other words, not in general view ( nothing wrong with that ).
The comparison I'm making is with London, where there are lots of white male, asian female couples in public view. I realise that it is not strictly comparable, as probably they are both residents etc, but I'm wondering if Thai women in Bangkok are really comfortable about going out with farang men in public view, or prefer to keep their relationship more " out of the public eye". My personal experience of the attitude I'm referring to was with my first Thai girlfriend who refused to walk with me in public, as she didn't want people thinking she was a "hooker" ( and that was long enough ago that I didn't qualify as an old fat ugly man ). Needless to say we didn't stay together very long.
Whatever, the only ( not married, not living together, non monetary arrangement ) Thai farang couples I've seen in Thailand, have been Thai male, farang female. I've seen a few of those.

I experienced some of that myself. My solution was to ditch and find someone a bit more secure in themselves. The attitude does exist, but I could not see any reason to pander to it.
