Hi guys and gals
I am looking to go to Koh Samui in August and will be staying on Chaweng Beach somewhere. My question is where? I dont need 5 star but a pool bar and nice facilities would be great. The other half (department of war and finance) doesnt like to rough it so any suggestions are welcome.
Also, I have stayed there before and found it a bit boring compared to Phuket. Any suggestions for good bars, places to eat and non aquatic activities appreciated.

Was there last week and stayed at Dara Samui, which we quite liked. Room was very large and nicely outfitted. Good pool right up from the beach, calm water protected by the reef, and 2 for 1 happy hour made the beers reasonable....during that hour, at least. Agoda.com got us $100 Cdn per night, including breakfast, which was a la carte but still really good.
Plenty of Chaweng options, depends a bit on your budget, Ark Bar where the action is or Nora Chaweng new and nice but at the 'other side' of the road.

Last August I stayed at First House at the far southern end of Chaweng with 5 minute access to a second beach, Chaweng Noi which is arguably nicer. Got info/pix of beaches and hotel plus general Samui stuff http://tezzasthaiinfo.blogspot.com/2009/08/samui.html
First House fits your asks and was a relative bargain compared to most Chaweng beachfront joints.
