Hello there,
I'm coming to Thailand for a couple of weeks end of November/beginning of Dec. Is this a bad time to go to Koh Samui because of the rains? I've already been to the Andaman Coast and really wanted to hit the Gulf Side of thailand, but does anyone know whether the weather's likely to be rubbish, as I get conflicting accounts from web resources...
Thanks a lot,
Leila

Probably yes. Monsoon season inside the Gulf of Thailand usually runs September-January (with the wettest months usually October/November) so statistically you run a higher risk of rain. In the years I've lived/travelled in Thailand, I've experienced and read of many tourists struggling to find sunny weather in that region/season. Rain-wise, you probably should stick to the west coast. The Gulf side is best February to August. A few Thorn Tree members live on the islands in question and can give you more insight.

Ditto. I've seen more complaining posts of sustained bad weather coming from this area at that time than elsewhere. Although my one Nov trip there saw great weather!
But look, if you really really want to see Samui, Phangan etc, why not take a few days to check them out? It takes little time to cross the peninsula, so if you have more than a week or so you can do both sides.
More weather details in the link below.

If you want to go, then go. The weather can be good or bad - if bad, fly back to Phuket!
