Hello Folks

I have seen most of the posts here asking abt how to get to Samui, I know ppl don't like to return from the Paradise... :)

So whats the best way for Samui to Bangkok (AirAsia is expensive on my dates, its after new yrs) -
I guess I have to take a ferry to Surat Thani, and the real question is Govt Bus or train.. I will be travelling overnight and I am not getting sleeper tickets... So the decision to be made is between a 32-40 seater bus; or AC seater in DRC?? which one is better...

Thanks
Kunal

Train, hands down.

AirAsia don't fly Samui - it would be SuratThani, but you know that, right?

Panthip Travel in Nathon on Koh Samui are the Thailand railways official agent. They can book not only the train (no commission) but the bus/ferry combo ticket very reasonably. We've been stuck before not being able to get train tickets so now we book as soon as we know the travel date.
If you think AA is expensive, have you looked at Bangkok Airways prices?

I will check with Panthip travels, though I think I should be able to book the train tickets with thairail (with only 20B charge)... and ferry tkt should be available once I am in Samui...

Thanks for the info guyz

Asking this question is a little bit like tossing a coin. Half the time it will come up train and the other half buses. Mind you, I'm not sure why people keep recommending buses (apart from being a bit cheaper) for me it's train hands down too.

We've had to resort to bus when a bit late booking the train to go back to Bangkok.
Ferry tickets will be available even if you front up just prior to one leaving. No need to book ahead. We just did it when we booked our train at Panthip just because we could, no other reason.

Sleeper car on the train, for sure. Comfy!

Sleeper is not available for 1st Jan in any of the trains, that would have been an automatic choice... The reclining seats in DRC wins the bet it seems...

Heya,

I'm also keen to sort out my travel plans from BKK to Koh Samui...I will be heading from Bangkok on the 29th or 30th - I think the train looks like the best way to go - anyone have any idea if there will be seats available if I book last minute?

Also looking to travel back to BKK after the full moon party on NYE - does anyone know if it is risky not booking tickets before I get to BKK?

Would be great to hear from anyone who knows or is also travelling down there the same.

Peace

Luke

Without a crystal ball, no one here can tell you if seats will be available on any certain day.
Given your dates, I'd be trying to pre book now. seat61.com gives booking alternatives.
