Koh Samui in August
My partner and I will be in Koh Samui for 1 week in mid August. We want a NICE beach, not TOO crowded. We want SOME shops, bars, restaurants without having to encounter another Koh San Rd!!!

My favorite beach on Samui is Choengmon beach, but Bophud and Maenam are also very nice.
Lamai is almost too busy for what you're looking for, although it's nearly as busy as Chaweng.
1-Weather should be excellent, have a look at my Samui weather blog, first link below. August is usually excellent, at least the last 8 times, since I live here. Check the archive for August last year.
2-Have a look here for some recommendations on the hotels on the mentioned beaches. White House at Choengmon, World or Paradise at Maenam, plenty in Bophud.
