Hi

My brother and SIL are honeymooning in Thailand in March (its their first o/s trip) and I was thinking about booking them a Thai cooking class as their wedding present. The longest they are staying in one spot is Koh Samui so thought I might try and book on there.

I never usually book things like this before arriving in a country but thought it would make a nice gift. Any suggestions as to reputable places to start looking?

I found this one which looks good...any feedback?

TIA

The Samui institut for culinary arts or aka SITCA is the best on Samui, as far as I know. My sister had a cooking class twice and some friends enrolled as well, can highly recommend them.

Enjoy your class!

This hardcover book might be a nice souvenir from their Ko Samui trip.

Am a foodie and enjoy cooking wherever I go in the world. Recently had the pleasure of cooking with Pai who is a lovely Thai lady and runs a small cooking class on Koh Samui. Much prefer cooking in small classes or one on one as you can usually choose the dishes you like to learn. Pai cooking classes is wonderfully flexible like this. Pai speaks good English.

Cooked with Pai twice and thoroughly enjoyed both times. This year a mate went along who very rarely cooks and he was thrilled at the experience and the outcome. At the end of the lesson both of us sat down at a small table outside and ate what the amzing dishes cooked. Aroi Mak….meaning very delicious in Thai!

Pai’s kitchen is well set up and from memory is set up for a maximum of 4 cooking stations. It is very clean, bright and well set up. At the end of the cooking class you get the recipes cooked in booklet form so you can cook them back home.

Pai has set cooking courses Red, Green, Yellow, Massaman and Spring Roll. The colours represent the curry pastes that you make then use in cooking the dishes. Pai was happy to mix and match the dishes from the various menus so were able to cook exactly what our preference in dishes were.

Any of the courses were only 1500 baht. You get to eat what you cook and Pai even supplies some steamed rice and cold water! All in all a great experience and a must do if you are interested in learning some simple Thai dishes.

The class is located directly opposite The Samui Resotel Hotel and Spa in Chaweng Beach.

They have a website www.paicookerysamui.com Pai's mobile number is +66 086 952 3672 as I found out if you ring her from overseas drop the “0” if you are in Thailand just ring 086 952 3672
