Het

Well after a bit of research i've decided on Koh Jum to stay for a week middle Feb, thanks for all the previous thread replies!

So a couple of questions for anyone with an opinion!....

1 - I arrive from KL to Krabi Airport 2pm Monday and fly out Sunday 2pm... Is it realistic to think i'll be able to get to Koh Jum the day I arrive, via public longtail, and also leave Koh Jum on the day I fly?

2 - Where would you stay and why? I just want a place where I can relax & meet good people, and drink til dark if I choose!

Thanks again for your kind replies, if ur on Jum mid Feb come find me for a beer and a chat! All the best!

1- Might not be any boats at that time. Best stay in Krabi Town and head out the next day. (You have to take the ferry heading to Ko Lanta then catch a longtail en route so there is no straight longtail service as far as I know)

2- I stayed at On Lee bungalows which were great, but way the heck far from the action. I heard this area Woodland is nice and I would probably opt for something there or around there next time. Good place to drink is Freedom Bar, see photos of Koh Jum etc here

Koh Jum is totally laid back, and while I thought it was a great place to chill out, others have reported being bored here. Have a look at my photos and dcide for yourself. Cheers!

Stayed in a few places on Ko Jum:

New Bungalows - make sure you grab the Treehouse, right on the beach:fantastic!
Near a few other bungalow operations and easy to pop to "town" for seafood restaurant

Old Lamp bunglaows ; lovely Thai staff, great bunglaows

Ting Rai: more upmarket, internet access, smarter.

Ao Si: built into the hills, monkeys scrambling around in the mornings, great food
Run by a witty Scott ;
Not close to other bungalows, great beach.

Loved it! Sure you will have a good time, wherever you choose.

ha ha, i went to ko jum based on some talk up on the TT. What a boring place! and nothing special at that. Arrived in that afternoon and left the next day... just a dry pit of sand as some sad palm trees. a real tourist trap but what did you expect?

Well, I do like Jum, so much so that I've more or less quit going to any other islands, at least as long as it lasts. Jum is being hooked up to the power grid and we're afraid the Koh Jum we know & love may
have its days numbered.

To address the OP, there is a public longtail from Laem Kruat at around 16:00. You should not have any problem making that. We asked New Bungalow to ask the boatman, Man, to pick us up at the airport, which is actually quite close to Laem Kruat. We'll see if that works out; it's the first time we've ever tried it that way. If you take a taxi from the airport to Laem Kruat, I'm not sure how much it might cost, but the amount of 600 baht springs to mind.

As for #4, you obviously didn't see much of Jum as Tezza says. It has beautiful beaches, rocky coves, stupendous landscapes, lush forest and a steep mountain, a perfect Thai fishing village, all kinds of different accommodation at all different price levels, great eateries, even a few beach bars, and lots of friendly, warm people. What it's not is a party island. If that's what you want, go somewhere else.

Personally I'm a big fan of New Bungalow. Along with its next door neighbour Joy, it has arguably the best stretch of beach on the island. It's got great bungalows at reasonable prices, and the food is superb.
