Hi,
Im wanting to go the 'New year Full Moon' party. I've looked for accomodation in 'Haad Rin' but everything in my 'Backpacker' budget seams to be booked up. Im nervous about just turning up as im a female travelling alone, any recommendations? Also how close is Hadd Yao as theres still some accomodation there, would it be easy enough to get to Hadd Rin from there?

Thanks

Hi.

Everything you need to know is nicely presented here - [http://www.phangan.info/index.cfm?action=phangan.index]

Take some time to read through this site...........it is very good.
The maps will give you a good idea how far away everything is from the FMP venue.

Enjoy your trip

My advice
Try and find some friends to go with you that way you can split the cost.
And you have someone to watch your back for safety.
As single females are targeted for drink spikings.

you shouldn't go alone ,too dangerous for you, you should have a partner/buddy.

^^ Well, the sad truth is, TGG, that a single farang girl can safely go lots of a places where a single Thai girl would be too scared to venture, but even so she still needs to be sensible and street-wise.

COMMENT ON PLANNING AND BOOKING ACCOMM

And there are some dangers about the FMP , for one the risk of disappointment at the state of the beach . See this VIDEO to get an idea of what an over the top , commercialised touristy event it is.

Only if she intends to go and drink herself stupid/ unconcious. Avoid the buckets, only buy unopened bottles of whatever to drink.
Stay sober, but if that's no fun- DON'T GO. Not a good place to be smashed with no one you trust to take care of you.
And don't buy anything illegal, unless you want a world of pain and despair.

umm... I don't know, I love outdoor raves, I don't want to turn you off, but you won't miss much if you skip the FMP and instead find a something unique to do.

I didn't like being around that many idiots, there must be 10 000 people and at least 1000 of them are young idiots getting way to messed up, everyones peeing everywhere, everyones tring to rip you off.

Lots of people like it and some even say its the best thing they ever seen, I might be a little jadded after attending British Columbia's best outdoor rave type events where everyone is super cool, peaceful, no cop problems, good and famous djs, .... the don't compare the FMP seem like a bunch of kindergardeners who peed their diapers compared the the real scenes everywere else in the world.

I would consider trying to get tickets to some sort of cool club in BKK or Chiang mai, or some swanky dress up jazz thing or something whee you will spend NY with the classy thais and westerners alike..

Just a thought, but you might have a different experince, I was alone and sober and 29 and basicly left after 2 hours or boredom, perhaps if I was with friends it would have been better.

In 2009 I was travelling Thailand as a lone female and I went to the FMP on NYE on my own, it was easy enough to meet people - even those who had gone with friends ended up losing them just to the vast size and number of people. It was exceptionally busy that night as it was actually full moon, and a blue moon at that. NYE 2011 isn't a full moon, it's just a party on the same beach using the same name. If you want the FMP experience i'd try for 10 December or 8 January if your stay will allow.

I stayed safe that night but I saw many that didn't - you do need to be aware and I would advise if you are staying out of Haad Rin to go down in daylight and get your bearings beforehand, because when it's dark and full of people you wont know which way is which and you will feel more vunerable.

I stayed in Haad Chao Phao at Jungle Hut Bungalows and Hotel, it was lovely and the owners were very helpful, and it was easy enough to get transport in and out of Haad Rin. Be sure to book your boat ticket off Koh Phangan in advance, the boats get very full and you could end up stranded for a few extra days

Had Yao usually had a little party of its own round new year, decent dj's (if you like house / prog house) enough people to make it fun, but not to many. I'd try staying around that area and seeing what its like, if you don't like it the FMP goes on all night so apart from the invetable taxi shennanigans its easy enough to get there.
