Hi there

we plan to be in koh pha-ngan for 4 nights over december.I have been to hat rin with a friend about 5 years back and it was great.

When we started looking on the web for accomodation I found that the typical "bungalow-on the beach" is gone on hat rin/I just could not find it.All I could find was upmarket resort type accomodation.

We are looking for a bungalow on the beach experience and are starting to look at alternatives.

would bottle beach (hat khat)be our best bet?

I'm not sure about best bet - Bottle Beach is real nice but access is more difficult than most Phangan locations.
Some nice bungalow on the beach places - Hat Mae, Hat Sadet, Thong Nai Pan. I have a fair bit of info in the second link below. If you want something in the Hat Rin area only 10 minutes walk from town on a real nice pretty quiet beach, check Leela Beach Bungalows on the same Phangan thread.

There are bungalows in Haad Rin. Sunset beach has quite a few. The cheaper places haven't got any websites. The differences between Haad Rin and Bottle Beach are tremendous. It really depends on what you are really after ... nightlife ... peace and quiet ... both ... exploring the island ... a good beach? I tend to stay on west side of the island.

Bottle Beach certainly had them 2 years ago, but if you want to experience them, better go soon, if it's not already too late.

Leela Beach has some bungalows on the sand.
