Hi,

Anybody any info on best way to the Park road & is my info correct:-

1) By train from BKK about 3hrs to Pak Chong (Soi 15) & then hopefully get a pick up from train station?

OR 1/2hr by songthaew....how much would a taxi be?

2) How far is Don Muang airport from the park? & how would I get there?

Thanks in advance

I got the air con bus from the northern bus terminal [near mo chid sky train station] to pak chong.I went on the Greenleaf Guest House Tour which I highly recommend.they met me at the bus station and returned me there after the day and a half tour.
The tour cost 1150 baht including lunch ,park entrance, transport and guide.accomodation was 200 per night. The food is good and very cheap.
I highly recommend this tour it was the best thing I did in Thailand.I will never forget it.Wild elerphants chasing the songthaew, toucans overhead and a six metre python stand out in my mind.
Take good walking shoes to trek in the jungle and send me a personal message to let me know how you get on.
the number to call is 044 365 073 or mobile 09 424 8809 [mr nine]
they have a website at www.greenleaf.com

Thanks passpato, how long did the air con bus take?

Are they pretty frequent back to BKK when they dropped you off.

What time of year did you go?

I think the air con took about two hours maybe three but I was there in time for lunch.I think they leave every half an hour or so.I went in March last year. After the tour I got the bus to lop buri where I spent a day and caught the sleeper train north to Chaing mai.You can also get a bus to ayutuya [excuse spelling] from pak chong. If you need to know any more call nine or pook at greenleaf they will be very helpfull.

I went to Khao Yai NP about 1 month ago. I took the train to Pak Chong which takes about 3 hrs. There we were picked up. We stayed at a place named Wildlife Safari, which I can highly recommend. Not only the tour which was awesome, but also the accomodation is really nice. Very friendly peolpe. We took the one day tour for about 900 baht. And i must agree to #1: it was also one of the highlights in Thailand. Its 2 km out off town, but they will drive you into town whenever you want.

Not really an answer to the question just some info:

Another option is to stay IN the National Park as oppose to OUTSIDE it.

It is very easy to get to Pak Chong from Bangkok on the bus from the Northern bus terminal.

Then get a local bus to the entrance of the park. From here you will need to hitch approx 30 km to the campsites where you can camp with your own equipement or hire tents.

I spent 2 weeks in Khao Yai recently - very enjoyable!

It is virtually impossible to walk along the roads in the park and NOT get people offering you lifts whereever you want to go.

A great way to explore the park and meet the people as a alternative to a one day tour.

Also you may prefer to put your money directly INTO the park as oppose to a cut going to the tour operators.

And you might learn more too - there are no "toucans" but there are Hornbills including the largest - the Giant Hornbill - one of the most famous birds in Thailand...

If anyone wants info on Khoa Yai feel free to PM me.

Cheers

You can easily get to Pak Chong by train from Don Muang Airport, it's a direct line (North-Eastern). Depending on the type of train (express, special, ordinary, etc) it can take from 2 to 4 hours.

Hello
I just want to say that: the accomodation, food, service and the tours at Greenleaf Guesthouse are excellent!! Call to be picked up for free at the busstop! Plus they bring you back to train- or busstation for free aswell! The staff is really friendly! Really good English and they make a huge effort to find wildlife in the tour. By far the best tour I ever had in my 1 year trip!
