i am currently on koh tao and am ready to leave. we have two weeks left in thailand before leaving on the 20th in bangkok. we had planned on going to khao sok for a week or so but after researching it we have found that it looks touristy and expensive. this makes us wonder if we want t go somewhere else. we have a few questions about our possible final destinations.

KHAO SOK
-are there any cheap accomidations/ camping options?
- are there hiking trails that you do not need a guide for and is there good public transportation around the park?

KOH PHI PHI
-how is the weather right now in phi phi and krabi? we know it is teh monsoon season but is it usually sunny most of the day with one downpour or does it rain the whole day?

ANG THONG MARINE NATIONAL PARK
-is there easily accessible tent camping/cheap accomidation within the park?
-is there a lot you can do on your own or is it mostly organized through a guide service?

we are trying to make up our minds within the next day or so. thank you so much

Most national Parks have bungalow accomodation, and I'm sure ANG THONG does. I don't know about tent sites, but unless you're very poor, I can't imagine why you'd want to stay in a tent in Thailand.

I just googled and this is from the very first website listed:

Accommodation
Booking can be arranged through the parks website or telephone booking at +66 2562 0760. Reservation can be made 60 days in advance.
Facilities
Accommodation - Bungalows are also available.
Camping site/Tent - Tent for rent and provides camping area for traveler.

Food services - Restaurant is available in the Park.
Visitor center - There is a Visitor Center located in Kha Bay, Wua Talap Island, which has exhibition for giving information to traveler.

Khao Sok has plenty of cheap bungalows in the village near the national park HQ.

You can walk on the trails in the park near the HQ without a guide, but it might be quite wet at this time of the year. Some of the trails in there might be officially closed due to the risk of flash flooding, but when I visited in wet season there was no enforcement of this, I even saw a guide leading a group of hikers in a supposedly off-limits area.

I have a trip report from that visit here including access and accommodation details.

You can't tell from what the weather is like on Phi PHi now just how it's gonna be when you arrive - but in general wet season sees enough sunshine to make a visit worthwhile - I've visited often in this season and have never lost a full day to rain.

I did a whistle stop trip in June to get fresh info and pix for my PHI PHI page HERE - first day was real nice, second day rained from 5am until about 1pm then nice, 3rd day when I left was nice.

Ang Thong has some National Park longhouses - sure to have tents.

Khao Sok has plenty of good value accommodation.
