Hi Lonely Planet!

I'll be in Japan for one week this upcoming July and have about 1 extra week to visit somewhere else.

I've heard of the weather in this time and I've always wanted to see Thailand but now am skeptical.

I'm a 26 year old guy that likes to explore different areas and also have fun and party at night while meeting people.

If you had one week to go any where from Japan - where would you go and what would you do?

Thanks everyone!

If you want to go to Thailand, and you have the time, why not? Maybe you can head to one of the Gulf islands.Or to Bangkok..plenty of nightlife, drinking and partying there.

Personally if I were only in Japan for a week and had another week free,I'd visit another part of that country. There is a huge amount to see and do there.

Go to Khon Kaen. University town. Hardly any tourists. Nice food. Bars and restaurants. Make a side trip to Nong Khai.

Of course you won't. You will go to some tourist ghetto like the others.

Young guy likes to party. Go to one of the party islands...Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Koh Samui, Phuket. The weather varies a bit with different locations in Thailand so it's not difficult to find nice weather. However, if it was me I'd look first to some place nearer Japan, like S. Korea & Taiwan, as already suggested by others.
