can anyone recommend a good indian restaurant in bangkok in the sukhumvit soi 5 area, not so much the traditional indian fare ime after the style they serve to pissheads in the uk on a friday night

you'll probably find one but it won't be anything like traditional indian food, more like indian food thai style!! but was told to try the mussaman curry it's the closest your get.
(something to do with they can't get the spice's)
but there's plenty of other food to try.

There is a very good authentic Indian restaurant inside the Novotel Lotus hotel on Soi 33 (I think) off Sukhumvit. We stayed there an year back, the food there was delicious. I think they have a buffet during dinner time and they have a spread with North Indian and South Indian food. They even had live Indian music that evening when we were there.

Arab & Middle Eastern fare is the big draw for the Soi 5 area. Some excellent places there.
For sure there's Indian restaurants nearby, perhaps someone can recommend a couple.

trouble is with the Indian restaurants in Thailand is that they actually serve authentic Indian stuff and not the UK-style Indian the OP seeks. There was a thread about it on Thaivisa recently. A place called Planet Bollywood was recommended, somewhere in Silom.
Only one I've had in Thailand was in Ao Nang, Krabi.
