Hi everybody!

I'm going to SE Asia in Nov of this year and am now starting to plan exactly what I wanna do when I get there. I love to go hiking and would love if there were any trails that were very scenic, I'm willing to spend up to a week on a trail. If you know of any scenic hikes in Thailand or surrounding countries that are "must sees" please let me know.
Anywyay, Thanks in advance

Hey Matt,

Chiang mai is the place were all main stage trekking happens in Thailand but thats not to say where ever you go, there are hikes to views points, up rocks etc etc. in chiang mai i went on a 2 night 3 day hike and stayed in local villages. If you are looking for more your own path hiking I am not to sure about that one. but up north would be a good warm up !!

Thailand National Parks
Have a look at the national parks and facilities. Many have good walking trails and some multi-day hikes possible. Compared to Europe/US/Aus etc it's not always as user-friendly. Many trails are unmarked and facilities are often fairly limited. But many of the park headquarters can arrange trekking guides and most parks have at least some onsite tents, toilets, some food facilities. Kaeng Krachan, Khao Sok, Khao Yai, Phu Kradung are among the more worthwhile visits.

I opened this because I saws MGM had posted - and he normally posts crap.

Of course there are plenty of places to go Trekking.
Try Googling the national parks - they all have some form of trekking.
, Khao Yai, Kaeng Krachan and Khao Sok are enormous the latter two having lakes for Kayaking too.

Up around Mae Hong Son, the "Golden Trianlge" and Burmese border is very popular - maybe too much so - but if you check out Mae Sariang, you might come up with a gem.

Hi, as an aside to the main question - but hopefully this will add - what sort of prices are treks out of Mae Hong Son? My time is short, but I'm keen to do a 2 day 1 night 'trek' - taking in hilltribe villages, maybe some rafting, elephants and great views. Would you recommend waiting until I arrive to book?

Chiangmai - north of Thailand.
Kao-Yai about 200 km from Bangkok.

Absolutely! No shortage of trekking options and you can usually ask around compare offers and book for the next day or two. There's a distinct price difference for group-based (6-12 persons, about 1500-2000b baht for 2-3 days) vs. private treks (just you and your guide, easily double or triple price of group rates) but in many cases you get what you pay for.
